The
Moat House is set centrally in 4.6 acres of grounds.
Unusually,
the grounds provide a green centre to the village, which has grown up
around them. As a result, both village pubs, the post office,
and
the church are all next door neighbours.
The reason the land has remained undeveloped over recent decades,
despite its prime position for housing, is that the whole site is a
Scheduled Ancient Monument. This rules out any possibility of
permission for development.
As the land has been used for rough grazing and other low impact
purposes over the centuries, the quality and quantity of the wildlife
is high.
